The jobs of medical assistants are not as easy as you think they are. Medical assistants perform both administrative and clinical tasks to help keep the offices of physicians or other health practitioners running smoothly. Their duties may vary from one office to another, depending on location and size of the company, and to the practitioner’s specialty. In small offices, medical assistants handle both administrative and clinical duties, and reporting directly to the office manager or health practitioner. But those working in larger companies, they may have specialized duties and responsibilities.

In relation to the job satisfaction of medical assistant, it is important that we know what the duties of medical assistants are. Medical assistants perform many administrative duties, which include answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and filing patient’s medical record, scheduling appointments, and more. Clinical duties, however, vary according to State law and include taking medical histories and vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, assisting the physician during the examination, and many others. These are just among the many duties that a medical assistant perform.

From the duties mentioned and the not mentioned, you must be thinking if medical assisting a satisfying job. Well, it depends. Based on the interviews to some of the medical assistants, job satisfaction of medical assistant also differs according to the purpose of why choosing a career in medical assisting. To understand the whole picture let me give you a situation example. If you are a medical assistant and decided to be one because you wanted to make a difference, you like to work with people, and you like the feeling after a rewarding day of work, it is likely that you have a total satisfaction with your job. But, if you joined the team of medical assistants just to get an immediate job due to the high demand of their services or because of the attractive compensation, you may have different level of job satisfaction.

Job satisfaction is not all about money. It is also about putting your job at heart. As long as you are happy with your job in whatever career path you take and no matter how complex multiple your job can be, you are on the right place in the right time. As for the job satisfaction of medical assistant who said that their job is fulfilling, rewarding, and challenging, you are truly someone to look up to. Medical assistant wannabes should re-evaluate their intention of what they are getting into. Remember, job satisfaction of medical assistant means performance satisfaction. If you are happy with your job, it will reflect to higher performance satisfaction rating from your employer which results to you job security.
